It’s almost like some kind of screwed-up season on Championship Manager 01/02 for Ronald Koeman – the club have taken the opportunity of managerial change to cash in on some of their assets, with more players being linked out all the time! They’ve already netted over £75m, and more will follow.

Whilst they have done extremely well in getting top prices for their players – most notably on Luke Shaw costing United a whopping £27m for an relatively untested left-back – you do wonder whether there will be anyone left by the time the board stop rubber-stamping the deals. The transfer rumours website reckons that the selling won’t stop there!

Liverpool alone have spent £49m in the Southampton sale. Crazy money when you consider that the football club sold for as little as £14m back in 2009! Maybe it would have been cheaper just to have bought the club!?

Rickie Lambert  Liverpool  £4,000,000
Luke Shaw   Man Utd  £27,000,000
Adam Lallana Liverpool  £25,000,000
Dejan Lovren  Liverpool  £20,000,000

With Chambers (Arsenal’s for £11m), Schneiderlin (also Arsenal) and Rodriguez (Liverpool) reportedly set to follow, you have to wonder whether Southampton will have anyone left!?

Koeman has cash to splash, and has returned to the Dutch league to bring quality players in at the £10m / each mark, but you do wonder whether Soton are playing a dangerous game – too many changes in the first team could easy leave them struggling for form, and points, come next May.
