Wayne Rooney is pleased to score a key goal versus the bitter rivals, the Reds, on Sunday. That goal of Rooney helped Manchester United beat Liverpool for the second time in the ongoing season.

United had downed the Reds at the start of the season too when they had taken them on at Old Trafford. It was, in fact, a more dominating win of 3-1. Yesterday’s game was a bit of a struggle, but, Rooney delivered when it mattered the most and made sure United continued to have a good 2016.

The New Year seems to have brought a change of luck for United as they have not had a poor game since the start of it. Of three games that they have played in the Premier League, they have won a couple and have drawn one and have thus strengthened their position in the standings.

Apart from that, they also advanced to the FA Cup Round 4 on 9th of January, beating Sheffield United by 1-0.
So, it’s been a good going and they would want it to be like this for the rest of the season. As far as Rooney is concerned, that goal was pretty satisfying for him from personal perspective too as he had been failing to score at Liverpool for the past number of years.

The last Rooney goal that Anfield had seen before this one was far back in 2005. It was after more than a decade that the charismatic striker managed to do it again. So, it was understandable why he was grinning from ear to ear.

After the game, a visibly happy Rooney was quoted as saying, “To come to Liverpool and score after so long and most importantly to win the match, I am really going to enjoy this.”
United will now head back home to play Southampton on 23rd.
