Judging by recent performances, Olivier Giroud is a man on form at Chelsea after forcing his way into Frank Lampard’s starting team sheets in recent games.

The French striker earlier in the season was the permanent third choice behind Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham but having fought hard and provided the goods when called upon in recent games, he has been very impressive.

His compatriot Marcel Desailly has analyzed the situation and has concluded that the striker can’t cement himself as a regular starter at Chelsea. Desailly was speaking to Goal where he made the remarks.

According to Desailly, Giroud is already getting old and will have to pave the way for the younger options in the Chelsea attacking department. He continued by saying that he can’t win the competition that is currently existing amongst the three striker options – himself, Tammy Abraham, and Timo Werner.

Desailly added that France international striker Giroud would have to settle for a bit-part role at the club and be content with the fact that he would be used on certain occasions after Lampard must have studied the opponents and figured that he would be needed in the match.

Giroud himself is not so happy with his lack of game time at Chelsea and was heavily linked with a move away from the club in the summer but ended up staying put after Che club blocked his exit.

In the forthcoming window, Italian Serie A club AS Roma, who were one of the clubs linked with the striker in the summer will return to see if they can prize him away from the Blues. Antonio Conte is also interested in Giroud and wants to sign the player whom he once coached for Inter Milan.
