Thomas Vermaelen signed for Barcelona on August 9 of 2014 but it wasn’t until May 23 of 2015 when the Belgium player could actually manage to make his debut appearance for the Spanish club and the main reason of this was due to injuries that the defender was suffering from which forced him to stay out of the pitch for a considerably long period of time.

The 30 year old defender has not made an impact in the team as he is not a regular starter despite having cost Barcelona a transfer fee of £15 million.

To make matters worse for Vermaelen, he sustained a calf injury as the Belgium player joins the injury list of players from Barcelona that have recently been suffering from physical problems along with Adriano Correia, Jeremy Mathieu, Rafinha and Aleix Vidal.

Barcelona were knocked out from the Champions League after losing against Athletic Madrid and have been dropping points in the Spanish League as well, the last thing that Luis Enrique and his team need right now is to start having a long list of injuries.

The injury of Thomas Vermaelen was confirmed by the club to one of their partners (a Finnish gambling site) as they issued a statement which read: “The Belgian defender suffered an elongation in the soleus of his right leg,”

Vermaelen’s move to Barcelona has not turned out the way that he wanted it to be as he has been plagued with injuries which has left him on the sidelines for the majority of his time since arriving to Camp Nou and his latest calf injury is likely to be keeping out of the pitch for the remainder of the season and even when the Belgium player is fit, his playing time is very limited as Luis Enrique prefers utilizing other players in the defensive department of his team.
